I’m the headline speaker at the Brighton Talks Sex January event ‘Just for the Girls’, discussing The Great Wall of Vagina – what’s it’s all about, why I did it, how I did it and what I’ve learned about vaginas.
Jamie has been a professional artist for 25 years, working largely in figurative sculpture and photography. He has a multidisciplinary approach, creating highly finished, museum quality artworks from his UK and USA studios.
He works in many materials including bronze, steel, glass, marble, clay, plaster, fibreglass and found objects. As well as nudes he’s known for his genital sculptures. Some serious, some humorous, all interesting.
Jamie has developed a photographic technique using an adapted scanner as his camera. The images have a decidedly painterly look and feel, taking photography in its literal sense of ‘painting with light’.
His latest photographic series are national flags made from hundreds of volunteers in their underwear, raising funds and awareness to combat the scourge of breast cancer.
“Changing female body image through art” is the ethos behind this world famous sociopolitical work, demonstrating normal genital variety and combatting unnecessary cosmetic surgeries.
